Sanford announces that Daniel Louvar, MD, recently joined the Sanford Bemidji Main Clinic as a full-time Nephrologist and the Medical Director for the Kidney Dialysis Center. A nephrologist is a medical doctor who specializes in kidney care and treating diseases of the kidneys. The number of individuals in northern Minnesota with kidney disease continues to increase each year. Last year, over 8,400 treatments were administered at the Kidney Dialysis Center in Bemidji.
 
Dr. Louvar comes to Bemidji from Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, as the Medical Director of Sanford Bemidji’s Dialysis Center. Previously, he held the position of Medical Director for Home Dialysis of Fargo, the Dialysis Center in Morris, ND, as well as the Dialysis Center in Bemidji.
 
Dr. Louvar and graduated from the University of Minnesota, School of Medicine (U of M) in 2002 and completed an Internal Medicine residency at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, MN, in 2005. In 2009, he completed a nephrology fellowship at the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension of the U of M and the Division of Nephrology at the Hennepin County Medical Center. During that time, he also earned a Master’s in Clinical Research at the U of M School of Public Health. Dr. Louvar is originally from Hinckley, MN, is married and has three children. He enjoys the outdoors and travelling with friends and family.
 
Sanford Nephrology specializes in diagnosing and treating kidney disease and disorders in newborns to adults. Dr. Louvar specializes in diagnosing and treating kidney disease, hypertension and kidney transplants. Conditions he treats often include: sudden loss of renal (kidney) function, blood in the urine, loss of protein in the urine, kidney stones, chronic urinary tract infections and hypertension (high blood pressure). Sanford Nephrology coordinates care with primary care providers and provide on-going clinical support.
