Beltrami Electric Cooperative Supports Together. For life. Project

Beltrami Electric Cooperative recently made a donation to the Sanford Health Foundation of Northern Minnesota in support of its current project, Together. For life. The project will bring exciting technological advances to the Bemidji area for new services of robotics surgery and 24-hour cardiology care. The Foundation is proud to recognize Beltrami Electric with its highest distinction as member of the Honors Society.

Da Vinci robotic surgery gives surgeons the ability to delicately adjust human hand movements in smaller and smaller increments, enabling greater precision and, literally, inhuman accuracy. From specialties like urology and gynecology to the general surgeries performed at Sanford Bemidji every day, da Vinci promises fewer and smaller incisions, plus a host of other patient benefits. Patients from around the region will seek out this technology. Advantages of da Vinci robotic surgery include:
•           Enhanced surgical specialties
•           Reduced risk of infection
•           Greater precision
•           Increased patient satisfaction
•           Faster recovery
•           Improved physician recruiting

The second part of the Together. For life. project is an advanced cardiology program. In the past, patients in need of cardiac care have often been air lifted to another facility, often more than an hour away. With a blocked artery, each second that ticks past increases the risk of permanent heart damage. Patients become at greater risk of stroke and having a larger heart attack. All that changes, however, when Sanford Bemidji opens a dedicated, 24-hour cardiology program in Bemidji. On-site cardiologists and their surgical teams will be able to open blocked arteries within moments of a patient arriving, saving valuable hours and minimizing the life-changing risks of waiting for treatment. The advanced cardiology program is a breakthrough for heart care in Bemidji. The program includes:
•           Dedicated cardiology suite
•           24-hour cardiac care
•           Convenient location, close to home
•           More lives saved

The total cost of these two improvements is estimated at $5 million. The Foundation is seeking $1.5 million in the form of community philanthropy support.

Anyone interested in supporting the Together. For life. project may do so by contacting the Sanford Health Foundation of Northern Minnesota at (218) 333-5515 or by e-mailing Foundation-BEM@sanfordhealth.org. By partnering with the Foundation, you are not merely supporting a new service or technology; you are taking care of people you care about right here in your community.
